lyrics

Little Death Hollow
by Leslie Fox-Humphreys

What can I say about this place
so far removed from all of you
the past applauds the time we spent
the sand we breathed
the rails we bent,
the spindly roads
the cliffs that drop,
all them thorns found in your socks

The red caked walls seem to beckon you,
this lands your peace of mind,
that piece of mine too...

I close my eyes, I see that
gondola jangling past a tired sun,
the scrap metal tossed around as we
kicked up our boots to that
Rail bulls defeat,
I still see just how cracked your
lips were when you held that bottle of KD,
But my eyes, they open,
And I'm reminded that all you were was just a dream,
The immensity,
of just how
vast and beautiful
and lonely
this land can be

But the wind comes strong and seperate
from the snakes a'coiled beneath
the rocks baked hot and left with
the wood,
petrified of not
the bones will still decay

Cattle nevermore to graze
I shout 'hallelujah' but Im still
thirsty for the creek bed of another day

Burnt up on the porch of a doublestack bounding east

I seek refuge in the canyon slots of
Little Death Hollow
and pray the floods won't wash me out,
my mule wont collapse into another mirage,
my food supply won't dwindle off,
if my hands will please stop shaking

I'm burnt with the Tamarisk,
the whites of my eyes yellow
Cottonwoods seeking a brilliant
means to the end

This desert is far from empty,
but the twisting vertebrae of another
planet rattling in the dust

I seek refuge in the canyon slots
of Little Death Hollow
and pray the floods won't wash me out,
but leave me whispering once more
to the shooting stars in
that Galaxy o'er my head.
